Part of Sanciangko St. in downtown Cebu City will be closed tomorrow for the Visayas-wide launching of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in the Cebu Coliseum led by Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The closure will start at 6 a.m. until noon and will affect the stretch from corner Leon Kilat St. until Borromeo St. according to the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).
“We are confident that we can contain the volume of vehicles of the Vice President and and his entourage in Sanciangko as well as manage traffic in the arterial roads from Bacalso to Leon Kilat to Colon,” CCTO executive director Rey Gealon said.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is the main ally of Vice President Binay in Cebu.
Binay is expected to be in Cebu tomorrow with his running mate Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan and some senatorial candidates.
Local UNA allies include Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district.
Last August, the Liberal Party (LP) had a similar event for supporters called “Gathering of Friends” in the Cebu Coliseum led by President Benigno Aquino III.
“This traffic management plan has already been proven and tested during the president’s visit. We have no reason to believe that it will cause congestion, maybe slow-moving traffic at worst,” Gealon said.
Traffic aides and personnel will be fielded to guide vehicle flow tomorrow.
All vehicles passing through Sanciangko St. coming from corner Osmeña Boulevard must turn left or right to Leon Kilat St. then proceed to their destination.
Vehicles can also pass through Borromeo St. in order to avoid the closed portion of Sanciangko St. in front of the Cebu Coliseum.
