Murder suspect, 4 others nabbed

POLICE arrested a 38-year-old murder suspect who was also allegedly involved in illegal drug activities in San Remigio town, northern Cebu.

Police also ended up arresting four of Lani Clear in Mendez’s alleged cohorts in selling illegal drugs.

The arrests were made in Gaway-Gaway, a mountain barangay in San Remigio.

Senior Insp. Franco Rudolf Oriol, chief of the San Remigio police, said the arresting team traveled seven kilometers and walked another two kilometers before reaching the suspects’ hideout around 1 a.m. yesterday.

Police chanced upon Marvin Mendez, the 40-year-old brother of Lani, Nonito Talisic, his nephew Joel Talisic, 20, and Lito Monteron repacking suspected shabu in a hut.

Police then proceeded to Lani’s house which was about 50 meters from the hut.

Oriol said the presence of the policemen caught Lani by surprise.

A warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Antonio Marigomen of Branch 6 in Cebu was used in arresting Lani, who was implicated in a murder case in 2013.

Police said they seized from Lani’s possession a KG sub-machine pistol, a .357 revolver and assorted bullets.

Also seized were packs of suspected shabu weighing 15 grams, estimated to cost P177,000, police said.
