Days after he chained himself to the flagpole of the Cebu Provincial Capitol saying he had a special message from an angel, Ervin Oliveros returned to his job as a taxi driver.
He was released by the police without charges since no one filed a complaint against him.
“He’s a good person. We don’t mind if he talks about religion as long as he performs his job well,” said Greg Tambis of Corominas Taxi Corp.
Oliveros has been driving a CTC taxi unit since 2011.
The company accepted him back at work despite Tuesday’s incident where Oliveros calmly chained himself to the flagpole at the Capitol about 9 a.m.
He said he was sent on a mission by “wisdom” to bring together seven “pillars” that would save the Philippines from ruin.
He named four of the pillars as former president Fidel V. Ramos, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, Archbishop Socrates Villegas and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, then waited for them to come to the Capitol.
“They say I’m crazy or high on drugs but they don’t understand that this is what the angel told me for the sake of our country,” Oliveros told reporters. He remained polite and calm. Oliveros said an angel has been guiding him. Policemen untied him and and brought him to the police station.
