Siomai, rice, noodles served for APEC cops

ONE serving of meat, one serving of rice, pancit noodles and two pieces of siomai dumplings.

This selection of food was   served to more than 2,000 police personnel assigned to secure the second round of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Cebu.

Six  caterers followed the menu for uniformed personnel.

“During the August and September meetings, we  saw the problem with the quality of meals. That is why we came up with this and discussed with caterers (what food to be served),” said Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, regional directorate chief of staff of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7).

As recommended by the PNP dietician,  breakfast and supper will have two varieties of viand, one cup of rice and  dessert or a fruit.

Lunch will be heavier  with three cooked viands, one serving of rice and dessert.

“We agreed to have the same menu regardless of the area, whether in Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City or Mandaue City. We also agreed on the delivery time. Breakfast should be received by the police by 6 a.m. on field, lunch by 11 a.m. and for dinner at  5:30 p.m.,” Lawas said.

As in the first series of APEC meetings in August and September, each police officer is given a daily meal budget of P300.

“We are not contented with checking the delivery. Our personnel from the food committee will also look into the sanitation of the catering services,” Lawas said.
