RISING Cebuano tennis player Israel Abarquez put on a dominating offensive performance to capture the men’s open title of the CitiGreen Tennis Cup on Sunday at CitiGreen Tennis Resort.
Abarquez, who was ranked last year by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) as the 20th best tennis player in the country, shook off a sub-par first performance to whip Janji Soquino, 6-4, 6-0.
Abarquez barreled his way to the championship round with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Zamboanga-native Jose Maria Pague in the semifinal round.
In the distaff side, veteran Sally Mae Siso banked on her vast experience to rule the women’s division, crushing collegiate tennis star Kezia Pilapil Jabines, 6-1, 6-3.
