Additional water for Metro Cebu

METRO Cebu will receive an additional 4,800 cubic meters of water purchased by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) from Abejo Water Corp.

“About 4,800 cubic meters additional supply will be in Pit-os Talamban area,” MCWD public affairs manager Charmaine Kara told Cebu Daily News. MCWD pays P15.68 per cubic meter of water from Abejo Water Corp. since early this month.

Next year, the areas in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova will receive 7,000 cubic meters of water supply from the same provider.

“Water supply from the Abejo Water Corporation comes from existing wells,” Kara said.

Earlier, MCWD announced that an additional 2,400 cubic meters of water daily from two wells in Mandaue City are expected in December while 17,000 cubic meters of water from Carmen is also expected in January next year.

MCWD noticed a sharp drop in production from 12 wells in barangays Talamban, Lahug, and Guadalupe due to the El Niño dry spell.

As of last month, production slowed to 4,854 cubic meters in Talamban, 457 cubic meters in Lahug and 1,915 cubic meters in Guadalupe.

“MCWD is appealing to the public to make water conservation especially the recycling of rainwater as a habit,” Kara said.

The El Niño dry spell is expected to last until early next year.
