Mandaue City has been chosen this year’s Low-Carbon Model Town by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Working Group meeting in Cebu.

The city will receive a feasibility study grant to help establish integrated green growth areas in the city and a mass transit based on the recommendations of the Mega Cebu road map by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Mandaue City Administrator James Abadia said the grant would let Mandaue City leapfrog into a higher level of economic development.

Three to five growth areas, which host only green buildings, have been identified.

Mandaue bested two other nominees for the LCMT project – Krasnoyarsk City in Russia and Subang Jaya in Malaysia.
