TWO Cebu City-based media practioners are running for seats in the Cebu City Council under the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) slate next year.
The candidacies of Garry Lao and Malou Tabar were announced during the first general assembly of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)–Cebu City at Tejero sports complex last Oct. 10.
Lao is a councilman in barangay Tejero. He filed an indefinite leave from The Freeman newspaper last Oct. 1 as a reporter.
A three-term councilman, Lao was also a former board secretary of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines-Cebu City Chapter.
“God willing if I’m elected, I will serve my constituents to the utmost,” he said.
Tabar is a former copy editor of the Freeman and is the station manager of the Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN).
She’s also a barangay councilwoman of barangay Banilad and is the niece of City Councilor Leah Ouano Japson.
“I grew up with my grandfather who is my mentor. I wasalways with him when he was doing his job as barangay chairman,” Tabar said.
For his part, radio commentator and columnist Cesar Albor filed his candidacy for the Provincial Board (PB), representing Cebu’s 1st district under the One Cebu party of the Garcia family.
“Magamit gyud nako akong kasinatian sa media sa pagpanerbisyo sa mga tawo (I will be able to use my experience in media to serve the people),” the 59-year-old Albor said.
