A 35-YEAR-OLD man suspected to be involved in various hospital thefts in Cebu City was arrested after he tried to encash a stolen check.

Albert Tumagna, a native of Dipolog City who now resides in Alaska Mambaling, was arrested after the bank alerted the police about the transaction.

Tumagna tried to encash a check worth P13,600.

The check was owned by Eugene Abella, who had alerted banks after the check was stolen last Thursday.

The theft happened inside a hospital room in Chong Hua, where Abella’s wife was confined.

Also stolen were iPhones worth P20,000 each, several credit cards and P6,500 cash.

Chief Insp. David Señor, acting head of Cebu City Police Station 2, said Tumagna was caught on security cameras entering hospital rooms.

In an interview, Tumagna admitted the crime.

He said it was easy to break into the rooms.

“I just observed the guard since the nurses and doctors would not mind you once you are inside. I usually check the guards, once they get distracted like when they’re writing on their logbook, that’s the time that I sneak in,” said Tumagna in Cebuano.
