The Lapu-Lapu City veterinary office recently made rounds in subdivisions around the city upon the request of homeowners to vaccinate their dogs.
Staff from the city veterinary office went to Camella Monserrat Subdivision in barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City and conducted dog vaccination, deworming and vitamin supplementation.
Almost 40 dogs and a cat were vaccinated in the subdivision during the whole-day activity.
Last year, 88 dogs were given vaccination in the subdivision. Some dogs, however, were already vaccinated in animal clinics.
“Kada tuig ni namo gihimo. Nagpasalamat kaayo mi sa city vet office nga nisanong sa among request (We did this every year. We thank the city vet office for granting our request),” said Charles Vailoces, homeowners association president.
Dr. Janice Tugonon, city veterinarian, earlier said pet owners can always go to their office for free vaccination. The office also offers castration.
The city veterinary office imposes fines on pet owners.
These include P2,000 for unregistered pets, P500 for pets without a leash, P10,000 for those who refuse to cooperate in the observation period of a dog after it had bitten anybody, P25,000 for those refusing to shoulder the medical expenses of anyone bitten by his/her pet, P5,000 fine and an imprisonment of 1-4 years for animal cruelty and P2,000 fine for those who fail to inform proper authorities that his/her pet has bitten anybody.
Pet owners who want to redeem their dogs impounded by the barangay anti-rabies will pay P500 to P1,000.
