inq 2016 election logoTHE provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) office will meet with law enforcement agencies this week to map out security plans for next year’s elections.

He said these plans will be finalized at the end of the filing of candidacies and then presented to the Regional Joint Security Center for evaluation.

Comelec provincial supervisor Lionel Castillano said by that time, they can already determine the election hotspots and ways on how to secure them.

Castillano said an election hotspot is usually an area with a history of election-related violence and intense political rivalry.  He noted that there has been no reported electoral violence since 2013.
