CEBU Provincial Board (PB) Member Arleigh Sitoy said he is ready and able to serve as mayor of Cordova town despite his limp and a heart bypass operation.
“So what if I am disabled, can I not serve? I performed my duties as a PB member, serving two towns and one city. It’s hard for people getting old when they just mock the disabled,” he said, referring to an earlier comment by his father Mayor Adelino Sitoy.
Arleigh said he is running to prevent foreigners from taking over businesses in Cordova town and displacing fisherfolk
Mayor Sitoy earlier said his daughter was more suited to run for Cordova mayor because his son has physical limitations.
The PB member had a heart bypass operation last January and walks with a cane. Before that he had difficulty walking due to a previous stroke.
Sitoy filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor in Cordova town, where he will run against his sister, Vice Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho. Their father will run for vice mayor in next year’s elections.
PB Member Sitoy’s running mate is former mayoral candidate Rodrigo Jumao-as.
His council slate is composed of Dr. Rowena Tongco, Adriano Balaga Jr., Lilibeth Aniporta, Ador Aytona, Christopher Ligan as well as the PB member’s son Martin Adelino and daughter Natileigh Marie Therese.
