While there was no power shortage yesterday, the northern part of Cebu served by the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) experienced a brownout.
Areas starting from Paknaan in Mandaue City all the way to Liloan town in Cebu lost power at 10:52 a.m. when the 138 KV Banilad-Mandaue underground cable line 2 managed by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) tripped.
In a phone interview, VECO reputations management manager Christine Jill Verallo said several feeders were connected to the line which resulted to a brownout in the northern part of Cebu.
As of 2:41 p.m., NGCP Visayas corporate communications officer Ma. Rosette B. Martinez said the 138 KV underground line 2 is still offline.
“Our crew is still investigating on the cause of the tripping of the line. Restoration time for the line to get back online is still unknown as of this time,” Martinez said.
Based on power supply outlook provided by NGCP in their website, the Visayas grid has a surplus of 309 megawatts (MW) today with total supply of 1,801 MW and system peak demand of only 1,492 MW.
