Green campaign on barangay level launched today

Melvin Purzuelo of Aksyon Klima Pilipinas said in today’s forum on the Laudato Si that community involvement is essential in resolving climate change.

“If we don’t move now, we might as well get used to supertyphoons. Solutions must come from everyone,” he said.

Purzuelo said there are enough laws in place to deal with climate change like the Clean Air and Clean Water Act and a Solid Waste Management Law.

“All that is needed is strict implementation especially in the barangay level,” he said.

The group’s output will be attached to a manifesto containing one million signatures that will be launched by the Pagtambayayong Foundation.

The campaign is part of a grassroots initiative aimed at persuading global leadèrs meeting in Paris this December to adopt a legally binding and universal accord to cut down on carbon emissions.
