Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale will visit Carcar City this afternoon to endorse Alayon’s slate for next year’s election.
Provincial Board (PB) Member Raul Alcoseba, running for city mayor under LP in 2016, said he spoke to Davide on their sortie earlier today.
Alcoseba said he told Davide that it didn’t matter to him if Alayon’s slate in the city would be endorsed by the governor, who chairs the Liberal Party (LP) chapter in Cebu.
“He has already given me a certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) and that’s the most important thing,” he told reporters.
Alcoseba will be running against incumbent City Mayor Nicepuro Apura, a member of the Gullas-led Alayon party.
The Alayon party earlier pronounced their support for the Davide-Magpale tandem in next year’s polls as well as for LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas and his running mate Leni Robredo.
In exchange for their support to LP, Alcoseba said the governor would have to support candidates from Alayon as well.
In a separate interview with Mayor Apura, he said the governor will only be ceremonially endorsing his slate.
He said both he and Alcoseba will be Davide’s candidates.
However, Davide did not issue CONA to Alayon candidates since they are not members of the LP.
As an offshoot, Apura said he was promised by the governor that the LP will not campaign for either Alayon or LP candidates in places where the incumbent mayors are members of Alayon.
These include Carcar City, Naga City, Sibonga, and Minglanilla. The endorsement will be held at 4 p.m. at the Carcar City Gym.
