MORE THAN a year after hosting the XTERRA off-road triathlon, the northern Cebu town of Liloan will once again stage another triathlon competition dubbed the Tri-Liloan slated Dec. 20.
The event is spearheaded by town mayor Duke Frasco and the Liloan municipal government in partnership with Sugbu Triathlon.
Unlike XTERRA, however, Tri-Liloan will not be an off-road triathlon competition. The distances are 1.5 kilometers for the swimming leg, 40km for the bike race and 10km for the run segment.
Expected to participate in the event that features individual and relay categories are triathletes from different parts of the country. But Frasco said only 100 slots will be available.
“We’re trying to start out small. We’ll try to see how this works,” Frasco said. “Hopefully in the coming years, this will grow then we will add more participants.”
Even if it’s considered a small event, prizes will be big.
The first placers in the individual category will receive P15,000 while the second and third placers will get P10,000 and P5,000, respectively.
In the relay category, first placers will get P10,000, second placers receive P7,000, while third placers bag P5,000.
Frasco, who confirmed his participation in the race, said organizers he chose to hold the event in December since he believes this event will be a good way to end the year.
Registration starts Monday, Oct. 26 and ends Dec. 15 at the Brick Multisport Store at the Cebu I.T. Park. Participants may also register online at https://sugbotriathlon.com/event/tri-liloan.
