Hayco wants Batang Pinoy to be ‘memorable’

EXPECT the upcoming Batang Pinoy National Championships to be extra special.

This after Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Edward Hayco asked committee chairpersons to organize a memorable opening and closing ceremony for the multi-sporting meet slated Nov. 27 to Dec. 2 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In a press conference Tuesday at the Belly Dancing Studio of the Abellana Sports Complex, Hayco told committee members to help him make this event a memorable one.

“Let’s make this event really memorable and meaningful for the kids, something they won’t forget for the rest of their lives,” said the soft-spoken Hayco.

The parade for the event that features athletes  aged 15 years and below will kickoff at 3 a.m. as delegates start from Osmeña Boulevard en route to CCSC for the opening ceremony.

Aside from the fierce competition in different sporting events,  organizers are also eyeing something big as they try to come up with the largest arnis class in the closing ceremony in their bid for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Organizers will  be inviting athletes to participate in the class to increase their chances of accomplishing their mission.
A new sport will also be introduced in the event called handball.

Batang Pinoy officials are expecting five public schools to participate in the new event. Aside from handball, a cheerleading contest is also scheduled.

Meanwhile, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) official, Atty. Jay Alano is encouraging participants to register online. The registration form is available at the Batang Pinoy website.

The site will also post possible change of venues and updates regarding the event to help keep coaches and athletes updated.
