MORE than 200 competitors are expected to see action in the cash-rich Play It Forward II badminton tournament this Saturday at the Metrosports Badminton Center in Lahug.
The one-day tournament is being organized by the Primary Group of Builders Badminton Club.
The 202 players are confirmed to participate in the seven-level badminton event according to tournament organizing committee chairman Edith Obligado. This year’s participants, she said, is a bit higher than last year’s 198 competitors.
Expected to see action this Saturday are former Palarong Pambansa players Kevin Berantin and Dexter Opalla who will also be competing head-to-head in the centerpiece A/B level.
Troops from the Philippine Air Force in Manila will also invade the tournament submitting eight entries in levels A, B, C, D, E, F and the newly added Executives’ Class. Other entries will also be from Abellana National School, Cemex and Patt’s Badminton Court in Mandaue.
Metrosports Badminton Club, who bagged most of last year’s top prizes is also fielding its top shuttlecock smashers.
The champion pair in A/B men’s and mixed doubles will receive P10,000 while P8,000 will go to the winning pairs in women’s doubles A/B/C.
The triumphant pairs in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles level D will each pocket P7,000 while their runners-up will get P3,500. In level E, P6,000 and P3,000 will be awarded to the champion and runners-up, respectively for men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles categories.
The organizing Primary Group of Builders Badminton Club will also award P5,000 to the winning pairs in Level F while runners-up will receive P2,500. Level G victors will go home P3,000 richer while runners-up will pocket P1,500.
The tournament will start at 8 a.m.
