Two dead, 22 injured in vehicular accident

Two persons died while at least 22 others were injured in an early morning accident along the national high in barangay Canduman in Mandaue City.

Security guard Edwin Rago who was riding his bicycle and a still unidentified woman died after they were hit by the mini bus driven by Anthonyo Abatayo.

Abatayo said his bus rammed a roadside electric post after he lost control of his brakes.

The mini bus owned by Rodolfo Davidon was traveling from Carmen town in northern Cebu and was headed for Cebu City when the accident happened about 5 a.m.

Photos posted on social media shows a lifeless Rago lying in the middle of the road and meters away from his mountain bike.

Reynaldo Elnar, director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB-7), said they will summon the bus owner and driver to their office on Monday.

We want them to convince us why we should not suspend their franchise,” said Elnar.

On social media, netizens call on the Mandaue City government to already take action on the series of accidents happening the area while they also remind drivers to always take precautionary measures like checking on their brakes and not to drive too fast.

An earlier road accident also killed basketball coach Manolet “Badz” Subang while driving his motorcycle in the area.
