Distorted loyalty

October 25,2015 - 12:49 AM

I am appalled by the distorted political arrangement practiced by the leadership of the Liberal Party in Cebu province’s 1st district.
While it is true that the administration party issued Certificates of Nominations to original LP members, its provincial chairman Gov. Hilario Davide III was on stage recently raising the hands of rival candidates in Carcar City.
The LP already issued a CONA to Provincial Board Member Yayoy Alcoseba who is running for mayor in Carcar but Governor Davide raised the hands of Mayor Nice Apura of the Alayon Party of Rep. Eduardo Gullas.
With due respect to Gullas, I believe that his party is already the dominant party in the 1st district but I can’t understand the political arrangement there with the Liberal Party.
Alayon party leaders can take good care of themselves. The new setup is being justified as a great sacrifice on Davide’s party for the greater glory of the party.
In other words, they aim to win at all cost even it means throwing out the window their political principles.
For me, this is a betrayal of loyal party members, adds insult to injury and may result in the exit of original party members who are disgruntled for being dumped.
I can just imagine what kind of leadership they will embrace if their candidate, Mar Roxas, becomes president of the country. I pity the original party members like my good friend PB Member Arleigh Sitoy, who was with the LP in the 6th district when no one else was and helped the party grow there.
The Liberal Party is so ungrateful to its loyal members but I reckon the original party members will have the last say.
The latest political development should make Governor Davide wary. Rep. Ace Durano’s support for the tandem of Grace Poe-Chiz Escudero with the support of his Bakud party will not be left behind.
Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale is not worried beacause she is a Durano. Her spot is secured by the clan. Davide should not be naïve about the political ways of the Duranos and the Gullases who look after what is good for them and are not strict about party loyalty.
I humbly suggest that the original Liberal Party members who were dumped should get organized and demand that Davide and Roxas give their support only to those aspirants who were given the CONA of the party.
If that can’t be done, there is no business supporting the LP’s national and gubernatorial candidates if they can’t do the same for original members.
Party loyalty is a two-way relationship. Let us stop the aberration in party loyalty, which is insulting to fellow party members. Let us show people the value of reciprocating party loyalty and of members staying loyal.
Please don’t abandon them during the times they needed the party. Show party members a little respect by de-listing them from the LP and make those you are supporting new members of the party so that the original members can move on and choose other options to serve their own interests.
Be honest in dealing with loyal party members. If not, I genuinely fear what kind of government the LP will lead if they win in the 2016 election. For many Filipinos “honesty is still the best policy”.
