THE Department of Education (DepEd) recently recognized mobile phones leader Smart Communications for its efforts to help improve education in the country.
Smart is one of DepEd’s corporate partners under the Adopt-a-School program, whose goal is to enhance the quality of public education through technological support and training.
Smart’s various education initiatives include the roll-out of the Smart TechnoCart, a mobile digital laboratory donated to public schools to provide teachers and kindergartners with modern learning tools.
Each Smart TechnoCart contains 20 tablets that come preloaded with Batibot, an Android application designed to help children develop essential thinking skills through fun-filled games. The mobile laboratory also features a laptop and projector for the use of the teacher; a Smart Bro pocket Wi-Fi with prepaid load for connectivity; and the Smart One Campus, a learning management system that helps administrators and teachers track and measure their students’ academic performance.
Smart has so far donated 15 TechnoCarts, but interested individuals and institutions may still give donations. For details, visit www.smart. com.ph/learnsmart.
