Cebuano Sollano getting ready for war

WITH THE NCAA Finals coming down to a sudden-death Game  3 today, Letran’s Cebuano big man Jomari Sollano is preparing himself for all-out war down low against his San Beda counterpart Ola Adeogun as the series comes to a thrilling climax today at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The five-time defending champions Red Lions got a new lease on their bid for a sixth straight crown when they upended the Knights, 68-61, in Game Two on Tuesday. The victory though was hardly easy as it took an incredible second-half performance from Jayvee Mocon, who scored all but two of his 13 points in the final 20 minutes of action, to help San Beda nab the equalizing win in front of over 17,000 fans.

Still, it was Adeogun who led the way for San Beda as he notched 14 points, eight boards and three assists, numbers that Sollano hopes he can minimize come the deciding game today.

But first, the former University of Southern Philippines Foundation center is looking for ways to get his body right after a bruising two games.

“Focus lang talaga kung paano maka-recover yung katawan,” said the 6-foot-4 slotman who scored 10 in Game Two but needed to hoist up 17 shots to get those.

In spite of the Game Two loss, Sollano said that he and the rest of his Knights teammates are upbeat about going up against the NCAA juggernaut with everything on the line today.

“Excited kasi nandyan naman mga Letranista para sumuporta samin,” added the long-limbed sentinel.

Sollano added that for all the pomp that this match will bring, he said he will try to do what was asked of him in the previous two matches.
