Man, 27, charged for punching boy

A 27-year-old man is facing trial for allegedly punching a 13-year-old boy in barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Gil Cañete was indicted by the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office on charges of violating Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of  Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Law.

Bail was recommended at P60,000.

Cañete was taken into custody by barangay tanods after he allegedly punched the face of his young  neighbor last Monday and hit the boy’s face with a saucer.

Cañete was turned over to the police.

In his affidavit, the victim said he was with his younger brother outside their house when Cañete y assaulted him.

“He’s been threatening kids in our place,” the boy said.

Cañete chose not to undergo preliminary investigation and waived the chance to answer the charge before the prosecutor.

The case was elevated to the court for a full trial.
