Demecillo to defend titles vs ex-world champ Dapudong

After his scintillating win in General Santos City against Daryl Basadre in their much anticipated rematch last Sept. 26, Cebuano WBF Asia Pacific and WBA Oceania Bantamweight champion Kenny Demecillo of Omega Boxing Gym will defend his titles against dangerous Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong of North Cotabato.

The explosive clash is slated on Dec. 2 at the Almendras Gym in Davao City.

Demecillo demolished Basadre in front of the latter’s home fans in General Santos City via an epic eighth-round TKO with both boxers fighting tooth and nail in their rematch.

The 23-year old Demecillo holds a record of 10 wins with seven knockouts coupled with three loses and a draw while Dapudong, a former stalwart of the Brave Heart Stable in Mindanao, is a former IBO world superflyweight champion whose record stands at 31 wins, 19 knockouts with six losses.

Demecillo will stake his WBF Asia Pacific bantamweight title in this main event fight of the Boxing Revolution: Road to the WBF Championship fight card promoted by the Sonshine Sports Management Inc.

Dapudong’s most recent bout was last June against Richard Garcia where he won via a second round knockout in Davao City. That was Dapudong’s second consecutive win after losing his IBO world super flyweight title to African Lwandile Sityatha last July 2014.

The December 2 fight is Dapudong’s first fight of the year.

Meanwhile, Demecillo’s stable mate Jerry Castroverde (6-2, 3KOs) will take on former WBO Oriental featherweight champion Lorenzo “Thunderbolt” Villanueva (29-1, 25KOs) in a 10-round non-title showdown.

Castroverde,18, suffered his second loss to John Vincent Moralde of Davao in the undercard of the Demecillo-Basadre title fight in General Santos City last Sept. 26.

He lost via a 10-round unanimous decision.

Both Demecillo and Castroverde are now training at the Omega Boxing Gym in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City under the watchful eye of veteran trainer Christopher “Ping Ping” Tepora.
