2.6 million voters in Cebu for 2016 polls

MORE than 2.6 million persons in Cebu will cast their votes in next year’s elections, the provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.

Comelec provincial officer Ferdinand Gujilde said their records show that Cebu has 2,689,717 voters as of Oct. 31.

Registered voters in the province, except for those in Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City, can vote for a governor down to the provincial board members.

Mandaue City has the highest number of voters with 183,023, followed by Talisay City with 114,294.

Toledo City has 100,964 voters, Danao City has 83,105, Consolacion with 70,032, and Carcar City with 60,326 voters.

Gujilde said 74,110 registered voters in the province don’t have biometrics while 7,939 have incomplete data.

This includes over 15,000 of more than 630,000 registered voters in Cebu City.

Gujilde said the Comelec will deactivate their records from the list of registered voters in the Nov. 19 Election Registration Board (ERB) meeting.

He said those who want to have their records reactivated may do so 30 days after the elections next year.

In Mandaue City, more than 12,000 registered voters  won’t be able to vote due to incomplete biometrics data registration.
