MCWD acting general manager Noel Dalena and public affairs department manager Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara teach a pupil the correct hand-washing technique during the Global Hand-washing Day celebration in the First Assembly of God Christian School in Cansojong, Talisay City.

Almost 30 grade 1 and 2 pupils of the First Assembly of God Christian School in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City were taught the proper way of washing their hands and the value of sanitation and cleanliness.

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) held the hand-washing activity to promote awareness on sanitation.

The activity was part of the celebration of the Global Hand-washing Day and in partnership with the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Industrial Engineering Department.

A group of students from CIT developed an Android-run mobile application named Water Warrior, which teaches children aged five to nine ways to save water like catching rainwater and fixing leaking faucets. The hero of the game is a water droplet named Wawa, a combination of the first two letters of “Water” and “Warrior.”

The CIT students’ project won second place in the Games App Challenge category of the Accenture Technology Campus Challenge.

The pupils were taught how to play the game and three pupils who got the highest scores received toys from MCWD as prizes.

MCWD acting general manager Noel Dalena and MCWD assistant general manager for administration Rowan Teñedo attended the activity.

Dalena encouraged the children to always wash their hands before eating to stay healthy.

For his part, Rev. Dante Portes, president of the school, thanked MCWD and CIT for choosing his school as the beneficiary of the activity.
