Man climbs roof, shot in leg by cop

A man who climbed the roof of his house and threatened to hurt himself and anyone who will come near him was shot in the leg by a police officer.

Rolando Pedrosa Hortellano, 46, brought an ice pick and a bolo when he climbed the roof of his house in barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City at past 4 p.m. Monday..

Senior Insp. Regino Maramag, head of Mambaling Police, said Hortellano was drunk and high on drugs.

He said they were preparing to file charges of  attempted homicide, direct assault, and alarm and scandal against Hortellano.

The suspect’s parents have been complaining of his violent behavior, Maramag said.

Despite the pleas of relatives and barangay councilman Ramy Tabada, Hortellano refused to go  down.

After more than two hours, Cebu City councilor Dave Tumulak, head of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO), arrived at the site and also asked Hortellano to go down.

Tumulak decided to ask for the help of the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT)  of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) led by SPO4 Leovil Singson.

Singson climbed to the roof and introduced himself as a police officer but Hortellano attacked him, forcing him to shoot the suspect in the leg.

Hortellano fell from the roof and was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).

Prior to the incident, his parents asked for the help of  police after Hortellano, armed with a bolo and ice pick, went wild and challenged his neighbors to a fight.
