Cebu Prov. karatekas rule PNG

Karatsekas from the Province of Cebu dominated the karatedo event of the ongoing Philippine National Games (PNG) Visayas Qualifying by harvesting 23 golds, 13 silvers and seven bronze medals yesterday in San Jose, Antique.

Cebu City was a distant second with six golds, five silvers and three bronzes while Iloilo City finished third overall with six golds, two silvers and four bronzes.

WEIGHLIFTING

Doren Romeral of the University of San Carlos (USC) grabbed a bronze medal in the 53KG women’s weightlifting competition after she scored a total of 95 points in the tourney, a solitary point behind silver-medalist Elizabeth Limbog of Ifugao who finished with 96 markers.

University of Cebu’s (UC) Mary Annalou Polistico was the best Cebuana finisher in the 58KG division taking the fourth spot with 85 points while Jelly Mae Paderes of USC came in fifth with 80 points.

CHESS

Lapu-Lapu City woodpusher Henry Michael Infante took home the gold medal after he dominated Lou Vincent Baculna of Antique in the final.

Another Lapu-Lapu bet, Aldwin Daculan won the bronze after outsmarting Cebuano counterpart Jeffu Dorog in their bronze medal duel.

ARCHERY

Cebu Archery Club’s Vincent Villa stayed right on target in the archery event as he took the gold medal in the Men’s Recurve Open.

Also putting up a sterling performance was Cebu City’s Michael Solier who defeated Cebuano Arlando Añora in their gold medal showdown in the Men’s Recurve Junior competition.

ATHLETICS

Not to be outdone are the Cebu City track and field stars who captured five golds, three silvers and four bronze medals yesterday in the first day of the tournament. The Niños are currently leading the PNG athletics standings.

The Province of Leyte came in second with two golds, one silver and one bronze while Lapu-Lapu City has a silver and two bronze medals.
