Mandaue City wants A. Soriano work moved

Mandaue City wants the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 to postpone the upgrading of A. Soriano Ave. because of two upcoming big activities in Cebu next year, the  the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) and Mega Sinulog.

Mandaue City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) head Architect Florentino Nimor said that if possible the project should be done after the two big events to avoid more traffic congestion in the city.

The upgrading works of A. Sorinao is expected to start this month.

The project which is worth P50 million has a duration of 300 days or 10 months.

Glen Antigua, acting head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), said that Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes wants the road work on A.S. Fortuna to finished first before they implement the  A. Soriano  project.

But Antigua said if the project will be push through this month, the city will have to divert the traffic flow in the area.

The city is also considering to impose truck ban on A. Soriano Ave.

Marie Nillama, PIO officer and spokesperson of DPWH 7, said that the request of Mandaue City will be forwarded to their head office for proper action.
