Cebu optimistic about securing MICECon 2027 bid

CEBU CITY, Philippines – With strong backing from various stakeholders, including the public sector, Cebu’s MICE industry remains optimistic about securing the bid to host the Philippine MICE Conference (MICECon) 2027 after Cebu and other Visayas destinations were shortlisted in the latest round of bidding.
“We are very happy to share that just a few months ago, it was announced that Visayas was shortlisted. And of course, we are part of it,” said Josef Chiongbian, general manager of Savoy Hotel Mactan.
Industry stakeholders in Cebu remain hopeful they can convince organizers to hold the country’s biggest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) gathering in the province.

“We are still hopeful that Cebu can secure the spot,” Chiongbian told reporters on the sidelines of the recent MICE-Tourism Summit of this year’s Cebu Business Month held at Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Organizers of the MiceCON 2027 will announce the winning destination this September.

The travel and tourism sector in Cebu is betting big on MICE, especially after the successful hosting of the 48th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and related meetings last May.

The completion of MICE venues, such as the Mactan Expo, SMX Convention Centers, and SM Arena, as well as the creation of a MICE alliance, also bolstered this outlook.
“We did have the ASEAN… but it’s (MICECon) an opportunity not just for our locals but for international buyers to really experience what Cebu has to offer,” said Chiongbian.
