MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group National Capital Region (PNP-CIDG NCR) announced its readiness to serve court-issued arrest warrants against high-ranking government officials.

This came amid the impending plunder case against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta in connection with a P75-million donation to him when he was still a congressman before his 2025 senatorial bid. Plunder is a non-bailable offense.

“We haven’t received a warrant of arrest for any high-ranking official right now,” CIDG NCR chief Col. John Guiagui told reporters in Camp Crame on Thursday.

“But again, it is a mandate of CIDG. If there is one, just like the previous cases, CIDG is ready to implement and serve any warrant that will be given by the court,” he maintained.

Case vs Marcoleta looms

Earlier this week, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla bared that the case against Marcoleta would soon be filed.

The following day, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) staged a protest to rally support for Marcoleta, a member of the religious sect, and condemn the impending case against the senator as “selective justice.”

Asked how the CIDG NCR would approach implementing a possible warrant to arrest Marcoleta considering the ongoing protest-action, Guiagui said, “It takes a lot of preparation, of course. It takes a lot of preparation. Not only the CIDG, the whole PNP has to do it.”

In its official statement in support of Marcoleta, the INC maintained that the senator had exposed many personalities’ alleged involvement in the flood control corruption scandal while he was chair of the Senate blue ribbon committee.

For his part, the CIDG NCR chief assured that their operatives continued to launch manhunt operations for all the accused still at large in all flood control scandal cases. /das
