KENYAN Douglas Mwiti and Lizane Abella emerged winners in the Historic Resort City Marathon 2015, which started and finished at the Lapu-Lapu Ciy Hall in Mactan Island.
Struggling in his past races, Mwiti finally found his winning form and topped the men’s 42-kilometer race after registering a time of two hours, 51 minutes and nine seconds.
Abella, meanwhile, beat her veteran rivals to rule the distaff side with a time of 3:52.04.
Second and third placers in the men’s race were Albert Omboga (2:56.11) and Paul James Zafico (2:58.33), respectively.
Veteran ultra marathoner Preciosa Sanchez placed second to Abella with a time of 3:55.09 while multi-titled ultra marathoner Sandra Sollano rounded off the top three, finishing in 3:55.10.
In the half-marathon race, Azlan Pagay and Ruffa Sorongon, both from the Spectrum Runners Club, emerged winners.
Pagay finished in 1:20.11 to secure the men’s title while Sorongon clocked 1:45.59 to win the women’s crown.
Jeboy Magbologtong (1:24.12) and Nicson Nicanor (1:33.45) were second and third, respectively, in the men’s race.
Mereeis Ramirez (1:47.59) and Kate Kim (1:53.10) were runners-up to Sorongon.
Winners in the 10k race were Robert Daang and Sarale Cuizon.
The Lapu-Lapu City Runners Club (LLRC) organized the running event with the support of the Lapu-Lapu Sports Commission and the Philippine Red Cross Lapu-Lapu Cordova Chapter. The Lapu-Lapu City Association of Hotels and Resort Security Officers (LCHARSO) was the co-organizer.
