SWU beach spikers stay perfect

Reigning title-holders Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras kept their immaculate record intact as they chalked up successive victories yesterday in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s beach volleyball tournament at the SWU sand courts.

The Cobras opened the day with a 21-10, 21-15 rout of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers then followed that up with a 29-27, 21-16 win over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars.

With the victories, the red-hot Cobras soared to the top of the standings with a 5-0 (win-loss) card while the USJ-R Jaguars dropped to 4-1 (win-loss) to settle for second.

Also in the men’s division, the USPF Panthers rebounded from their loss to SWU with a 21-16, 21-19 triumph over the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters while the University of the Visayas Green Lancers (UV) handed the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) its fifth loss in a row, beating the hapless Wildcats, 21-13, 21-13.

In the distaff side, the UC Lady Webmasters suffered two consecutive losses in one day, bowing to the defending champions SWU Lady Cobras, 8-21, 4-21, and losing to the the USPF Lady Panthers, 17-21, 18-21.

In the girls’ division, the USPF Panthers survived the UC Webmasters, 21-16, 21-19.
