Trees in the center island along Maximo Patalinjug Avenue in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City were adorned with Christmas lights and other Christmas decorations.

A switch-on ceremony of the Christmas lights was held Wednesday night last week.

Mayor Paz Radaza, Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong, Rep. Aileen Radaza and Pajo barangay captain Junard “Ahong” Chan led the ceremony.

Twenty-six participants from the various sectors and business establishments within the barangay joined the second “Light-up a Tree” contest initiated by Pajo barangay captain Junard “Ahong” Chan.

The event’s theme was “Ang kahayag sa Pasko sa Pajo nakahatag og kahiusahan, kaayohan ug kalambo-an para kanatong tanan (The Christmas lights in Pajo bring unity, welfare and progress for all of us).”

Mayor Radaza commended Chan’s initiative of making his barangay united, lively and colorful especially in the Christmas season, “I wish this would also be replicated by the other barangays,” she said.

Residents of Barangay Pajo and motorists were amazed by the lighted trees and appreciated the creativity of the participants.

“Ang Pasko sa Pajo nakahatag og kadasig sa matag usa kanato ug mahinumdom ta sa tinud-anay nga diwa sa Pasko nga mag-ambitay sa grasya ug maghigugmaay  (Christmas in Pajo gives courage to every one of us and reminds us of the true spirit of Christmas, which is sharing of blessings and loving one another),” Chan said.

Winners of the contest will be announced on December 31.

The top three winners will receive P50,000, P40,000 and P30,000, respectively. Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will also receive consolation prizes.
