Cebuano mountain biker Jun Vincent Duron took the world of cycling by storm when he finished second overall after last Sunday’s fourth and concluding leg of the 2015 ASEAN Mountain Bike Cup in Dili, Timor Leste.
Duron of Talisay City finished the grueling race in 58:24.35, just one minute and nine seconds behind overall champion Jacinto de Jesus da Costa of Timor Leste who breasted the tape in 57:24.26.
It was the second silver medal in the four-leg series for the 31-year-old Duron who made a notable performance in his international debut last April by finishing second behind winner Kusnadi Kusnadi of Indonesia in the second leg of the series held in Yogkarta, Indonesia.
In the distaff side, Filipina mountainbiker Ariana Thea Patrice Dormitorio made the country proud by seizing the overall women’s elite cross country (XCO) crown.
The 19-year-old Dormitorio, a member of the Team Ariana-Specialized settled for the silver medal in last Sunday’s fourth and final leg behind Portugal’s Ilda Carina Pereira with a time of 1:28:50.37. But after the results of the other legs were added up, Dormitorio was crowned as overall champion having won two legs of the lung-busting race held in Danao City, Cebu and Indonesia, respectively.
Dormitorio also placed second in the penultimate leg held last August in Malaysia.
