Eight persons were arrested in a house believed to have been used as a drug den just beside the office of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) in barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City.
NBI agents arrested Joel Cabezas, Albert Makinano, Danilo Palileo, Felipe Gelig, Adrian Lagunda, Michael Muyano, Roy Muyano and Kimpoy Sayaboc.
Five small sachets of shabu and several drug paraphernalia were confiscated from Cabezas’s house.
NBI-7 Director Ricardo Diaz said they need to intensify their campaign against illegal drugs, and the best way to do it is to start in their neighborhood.
“It’s a shame on our part if we do not arrest these people who are doing illegal businesses right beside our office,” he told reporters yesterday.
He said the NBI will continue to run after illegal drug operations near government offices.
Last November 11, the NBI also arrested three alleged drug dealers in a shanty located across the Cebu City Hall.
Diaz said they conducted surveillance operations and test-buy to confirm reports regarding the illegal drug trade beside the NBI-7 office.
Sought for comment, Cabezas denied operating an illegal drug den.
He, however, admitted keeping sachets of shabu for his personal consumption.
Cabezas and the other suspects are detained at the NBI office pending the filing of drug charges against them before the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.
