Sixteen Cebu City barangays may not be able to receive financial assistance from the city government this year if they don’t liquidate by December 15 their previous assistance.
The barangays are Banilad, Buhisan, Bulacao Capitol Site, Cogon Ramos, Day-as, Guadalupe, Kasambagan, Kinasang-an, Labangon, Lahug, Quiot, San Roque, Talamban, Tejero and Zapatera.
Their unliquidated financial assistance amounted to P130.1 million.
Mayor Michael Rama met with the barangay leaders yesterday.
Those who failed to attend may attend the next one in the first week of December.
“We will be helping them because there are existing financial aid ought to be released but cannot be released because of unliquidated finances. That will go to the people. It will be the people that will be affected,” Rama told reporters yesterday.
He said the problem of the barangays is either questionable or solvable.
Rama said barangays Capitol Site, Day-as, Kasambagan, Lahug, Buhisan and Quiot were “questionable” since they still have debts from the previous administration.
City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said she was told by the mayor to assist the barangays.
The city appropriated P800 million as financial assistance to the city’s 80 barangays this year.
The amount per barangay is P5 million to more than P10 million, depending on the barangay’s size, among other factors.
Mayor Rama started distributing the checks to the barangays last October.
