THE University of San Jose-Recoletos Lady Jaguars (USJ-R) displayed their unparalleled dominance inside the sandy court yesterday by sweeping their first three assignments in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc.(Cesafi) women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Aznar sand courts.
USJ-R opened its campaign with a, 21-7, 21-14 rout of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Lady Panthers (USPF), then pulled off a monumental upset against the defending champions Southwestern University Lady Cobras (SWU), 21-19, 21-18 before crushing the University of Cebu Webmasters, 21-15, 21-8.
The trio of emphatic wins pushed USJ-R to the top of the standings with a 3-0 (win-loss) card.
Also in the women’s division, the SWU Lady Cobras unleashed their spiking venom against the UC Lady Webmasters, 21-5, 21-5 to ease the pain of their shocking defeat to USJ-R earlier.
In the boys division, the USPF Baby Panthers completed their huge fightback with a come-from-behind victory against the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors (USC) 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 while the USJ-R Baby Jaguars kept the Don Bosco Technological Center Baby Greywolves (DBTC) at bay with a, 21-10, 21-12 victory.
In girls action, the USJ-R Jaguars logged two victories in one day by annihilating the UC Webmasters 21-9, 21-6 and the USPF Panthers 21-13, 21-15 for the early lead in the team standings with a 2-0 (win-loss) card while the USC Warriors pounded the SWU Cobras in straight sets, 21-18, 21-18.
Also in girls play, the SWU Cobras rebounded from their heartbreaking loss to USC with a, 21-10, 21-3 drubbing of Cebu Eastern College (CEC) while the USPF Panthers won against CEC via default for a, 1-1 (win-loss) record.
