SEVERAL people have shown interest in adopting “Baby Boy X,” the newborn who was found in a shopping bag at the roadside in barangay Basak last Tuesday.( Read : Who left newborn in shopping bag? )
“Ubay-ubay gyud tong nianhi sa ospital kay gustong mo-adopt sa bata (Many came here to the hospital [Lapu-Lapu City Hospital] showing their intention to adopt the baby),” said Cherish Raquel Montebon, Medical Social Worker of Lapu-Lapu City Hospital yesterday.
Rubelyn Cabor, the woman who found the baby in sitio Sto. Niño, was one of those interested to adopt “Baby Boy X.”
Montebon said that abandoned babies or children should be reported to the authorities and turned over to DSWD.
Contact tracing has to be done first to try locate their parents and to determine whether the children were intentionally lost or not.
Adoption is possible but the but the adopting parent has to be ready for a long process with the by DSWD regional office.
“Baby Boy X” is now confined at the hospital.
Montebon said the infant underwent a healthy checkup including blood typing tests.
She said the baby is aided by an oxygen generator since he has difficulty breathing.
The infant will soon be moved to Norfil Foundation Inc., at Sangi, barangay Pajo for foster care until he will be adopted.
The foundation will also be the one to coordinate with the barangay and police to trace the baby’s parents.
Montebon said that anyone who finds a baby or a child who is without parents should inform and turn the minor over to authorities, or they will face charges in accordance with the law.
