3 PBA squads aim to break tie

Games today:

Araneta Coliseum

5:45 p.m.- Alaska vs. Meralco

8:00 p.m.- Petron vs. GlobalPort

ALASKA, GlobalPort and Meralco, three teams with similar records, gun for crucial wins while Petron looks to restore order in today’s double-header of the 39th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Aces battle the Bolts in the first game, while the Blaze Boosters collide with the Batang Pier in the main game.

Alaska, GlobalPort, Meralco and the idle San Mig Coffee Mixers are in a four-way logjam at sixth spot with similar 4-7 (win-loss) records.

The Batang Pier have lost their last four games, while the Aces are coming off a close 117-121 overtime defeat to the defending champions Tropang Texters. Petron also lost in its last outing as it was stunned by the Barako Bull Energy Colas, 88-92.

The Boosters, who have lost three of their last four games, failed in their bid to tie the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings, who lead the team standings with a 9-2 record.

Instead, the Boosters fell to two-way tie at second place with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters with 8-3 records.

Meralco is the only team coming off a win in today’s twinbill as they pulled off a 92-88 win over the Air21 Express last Wednesday.

The Bolts got a major boost from new acquisition Danny Ildefonso, who finally saw action after being left unsigned by the Boosters.

The two-time MVP tallied 14 points, six rebounds, and a team-high five assists in 29 minutes of action.
