CEBUANO netters Amiel Aya-ay and Janji Soquino move one win away from capturing the men’s doubles trophy after they logged successive victories yesterday in the Peugeot Philippine Tennis Open Regional Qualifiers in Bacolod City.
The powerhouse Cebuano pair opened the day by overpowering Reynan Mahusay and Jerome Gavituya, 6-0, 6-0 before crushing the tandem of Japeth Bartolome and Eduardo Rodriguez Jr. in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-1.
As of press time the pair of Chat Conta and Archie Rodriguez are battling McLean Barraquias and Karl Mark Gayo for the right to face the Cebuanos in the championship round scheduled today.
