MOTORISTS passing Mandaue City can expect heavier traffic congestion as another road project and the Mactan bridge repair project are expected to commence before the year ends.
Florentino Nimor, Jr., Mandaue City development and planning officer, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be implementing the upgrading of A. Soriano Avenue and the repair of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge will start soon.
Mandaue City earlier requested for the postponement of the project because of two upcoming big activities in Cebu next year — the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) and the Sinulog Festival.
The upgrading works of A. Soriano Ave., with a P50-million budget, is expected to start this month and will last for 300 days or 10 months.
Nimor said they welcome the road projects but they hope the two will not be undertaken simultaneously.
Presently, there are four ongoing road repairs in the city, involving ML Quezon Ave., Plaridel Street, Tungib Road, and A.S. Fortuna Ext.
