Cash aid for Mandaue fire victims sought

THE Mandaue City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) is recommending the release of  financial assistance for  fire victims in barangay Paknaan.

Last Sunday’s fire left 57 families homeless after 26 houses were razed in Zone Camansi.

Violeta Tabada, CSWS head, said the  recommendation will be sent to the  mayor  today so  financial assistance would be released.

CSWS can give up to P10,000 to the house owners and  P5,000 to  sharers and renters of houses damaged by fire. The city can provide blankets and mats as immediate aid.

Fire victims were also provided with food and toiletries for three  days, said Tabada.

Kitchen utensils and rice will also be donated.

Some fire victims asked for housing materials but the city could no longer grant the request.

Tabada said the city used to donate housing materials but it was questioned by the Office of the Ombudsman.

“We will just give them P10,000 cash and they will be the ones to buy the housing materials,” Tabada said.
