HOSPITAL staff and personnel should undergo intensive orientation and values formation so they would take better care of their patients, said One Cebu vice gubernatorial candidate Nerissa Soon-Ruiz.
“This is to inculcate values and service for them and not to think on how much they get. Health is not about business,” Soon- Ruiz said during yesterday’s 888 News Forum.
“Equipment for X-rays, dialysis, and even for ultra sound should be available in order to decongest Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC),” she added.
Soon-Ruiz said this in response to the recent spate of deaths of children in some provincial district hospitals.
She said there should be a committee that will handle trainings and facilitate the provision of equipment to hospitals.
Regional Director Jaime Bernadas of the Department of Health (DOH) agreed.
“I agree to a certain extent that the practice of the medical profession shall be directed to humanitarian services rather than monetary return,” he said.
“In any emergency, money should never be a question. As a doctor, you have to deliver service without asking anything,” he told reporters.
Bernadas said it’s important to institutionalize quality health care regardless of the patient’s status.
