THE PHILIPPINE Cycling team’s goal to make it to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic games remains reachable as they are in the running for fourth place in the Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Asia Tour Ranking.
The latest UCI Ranking shows that the Philippines (264 points) is ranked fifth, trailing behind South Korea (276). The Pinoy bikers will be going for the needed points in the last qualifier Tour of Jelajah in Malaysia on Dec. 9-13.
The Philippines were a step closer after a strong finish by Mark Galedo and the 7-Eleven Road Bike Philippine Continental Team earned at least 40 points at Tour de Singkarak and Tour of Borneo and held last October and November, respectively.
The top four UCI Asia finishers will qualify to the Rio Olympics. Asian front-runners are powerhouses Iran (1,643 points), Kazakhstan (602 points) and Japan (541 points).
