CEBUANO riders continued to hit their stride in the Ride Bohol Cycling Race as Dr. John Gayatin won the gold medal in the Road Race competition of the Men’s Golden category last weekend in Bohol.
Gayatin of Cebu Cycling crossed the finish line with a time of two hours and 20.03 minutes. Coming in second in the 86-kilometer race from Loay to Jagna and back again was Boy Tiples from Manila who clocked in at 2:22:01. Ormoc’s Philip Sainz placed third with 2:27:38.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old female rider Ana Patricia Maximo of YKKBikes.com, using a Ridley-Token race bike, continued to surprise the field with another good performance by placing 13th among the 17 male riders, finishing in 2:37:40.
“I was concerned that I might not be able to sustain the pace of the peloton and get dropped in the race. There were many attacks in the early part of the race, I was even dropped once but I was able to go back to the group,” shares the grade 10 student of Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus.
In the Men’s B/C class, Adelino Buligan of the host island won by the skin of his teeth with a time of 2:23:44.19, just milliseconds ahead of Individual Time Trial winner Amon Espinosa of Bohol who came in with a time of 2:23:44:69. Another Cebuano, Jonel Carcueva, finished close behind in third with a time of 2:23:44.96.
