A NEW karting king is expected to be crowned Saturday without much opposition as Jette Calderon aims to hold on to his slim lead in the KT Expert class of the 7th and final leg of Kartzone Superkart Series at the Kartzone track in barangay Panagdait, Cebu City.
Calderon, a many-time Karter of the Year award-winner who was dethroned by rival Juan Antonio Carcel in 2012, is looking forward to taking back the title as he holds a slim 22-point lead over his closest pursuer, Joseph Rojo.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Rojo appears to be set on not racing today, thus paving the way for Calderon to reclaim the crown.
The qualifying heats begin in the morning with the final races set for the afternoon. According to race organizer Kim Limgenco, the gloomy weather might play a factor in the race, with torrential rains expected today.
The other classes that will compete today include the 4S cadet, expert and novice classes and the Mini-ROK.
