Lahug raid yields drugs; seven people arrested

Several packs of suspected shabu estimated to be worth at least P1 million were confiscated in a drug raid in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Police also arrested seven persons, including a suspected drug pusher and his cohort, during the raid yesterday afternoon on what is suspected to be a drug den.

Senior Inspector Eunil Avergonzado, head of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force who conducted the raid, said they arrested Renato Cruz, also known as Ato, 60, after he sold a pack of suspected shabu worth P200 to a police undercover agent.

His cohort, Noel Suson, 47, was also arrested.

Avergonzado said they conducted at least two weeks of surveillance on Cruz before they raided his house, which was near a school and the Lahug market.

Avergonzado said Cruz was a level 2 drug pusher on their list of drug personalities.

He said that Cruz could dispose at least a kilo of shabu in a week.

Cruz admitted to police that he sold the drugs, but he later denied owning the illegal drugs.

Five other persons were arrested during the raid after they were caught sniffing shabu inside Cruz’s house which police described as a drug den.

Those arrested were Michael Sarmiento, 35; Albert Bercid, 33; Jed Paulo Arcayan, 21; Charlie Olmilla, 21; and Christopher Bojos, 25.

The suspects are detained at the Cebu City Police Office detention cell pending the filing of charges.
