Traffic plan set for mall opening

THE Cebu City Transportation Office will enforce a modified traffic plan for the opening of Robinsons Galleria Mall on Thursday this week.

CCTO executive director Rey Gealon told reporters that the mall management agreed to their traffic plan, which he believes will ease vehicular flow in the area.

Under their plan, the first two driveways from S. Osmeña Avenue shall be closed while its concrete sidewalk and curb will be restored to its standard height to allow pedestrians to pass through.

Vehicles leaving the mall will turn right in order not to block traffic flow.

Since the mall is located between two major intersections, jeepneys and taxis won’t be allowed to load and unload in the area.

Gealon said there are designated loading and unloading spots for passengers.

“Robinsons said their entrance will have loading and unloading areas, but I think we need more since it is their opening,” Gealon said.

After the opening day, Gealon said vehicles will no longer be allowed to stop along S. Osmeña Avenue to ensure continuous traffic flow.

CCTO assigned 30 personnel to man traffic on General Maxilom Avenue and S. Osmeña Avenue.

They will augment those assigned in roads fronting the mall and all the roads encompassing and within its vicinity, including A. Rosario, J. De vera, J.L. Briones Street, Benedicto Street and 13th Avenue.

“We have just wrapped up our discussion and laid out our traffic management plan, and we are confident that the traffic situation on the day of its opening will be smooth,” Gealon said.
