Beermen try to continue winning run, face NLEX

Games today:
Cuneta Astrodome
4:15 p.m.- GlobalPort vs. Meralco
7:00 p.m.- NLEX vs. San Miguel Beer

The San Miguel Beermen put their five-game winning streak on the line when they battle the NLEX Road Warriors in the main game of the 41st PBA Philippine Cup today at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The Beermen are currently tied with the Alaska Aces at the number one spot of the team standings with similar 7-1 (win-loss) records.

San Miguel and Alaska are the hottest teams in the league right now. While San Miguel has won its last five games, Alaska is also on roll after racking up four straight victories.

The two squads are already assured of a quarterfinal berth and are the front-runners for the two outright semifinal seats.

Closely trailing San Miguel and Alaska is Rain or Shine, which has six wins and two losses.

The Road Warriors are avoiding a third straight setback. They are currently tied with the Barako Bull Energy for the seventh and eighth spots with identical 4-4 slates.

In the first game, the GlobalPort Batang Pier try to inch closer to the leaders when they test the slumping Meralco Bolts.

Apart from Alaska and San Miguel, GlobalPort is the only other team in the league which is on a winning streak. The Batang Pier have won their last two games and upped their record to 5-3, good for a tie with the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters at the fourth and fifth places.

Loser of three straight games, Meralco has been groping for form, winning only once after nine games to occupy the last spot. Meralco’s lone victory came at the expense of sister-team NLEX—a hard-earned 93-91 win last Nov. 24.
